The Los Angeles Kings grabbed a 1-0 series lead in the Stanley Cup Finals thanks to a breakaway goal by Anze Kopitar. The Kings improved to an unprecedented 9-0 on the road during the playoffs, and 3-0 in overtime play.
After they broke out of their zone just over eight minutes into the extra frame, Justin Williams was able to get the puck off the side boards and to a streaking Kopitar. Kopitar gained control of the puck and deked around Martin Brodeur giving the Kings the victory.
It was Kopitar's seventh goal of the playoffs and his 16th point. Game two of the series is Saturday.
