Will All Star Appearance Eventually Hurt Quick?

The NHL All Star festivities are set to start tonight when Team captains, Zdeno Chara and Daniel Alfedsson, pick their rosters school yard style with a fantasy draft. In total, their will be 42 players participating in various challenges at the All Star Skills Competition on Saturday and playing in the All Star Game a day later.

By being selected those 42 players, unlike the rest of the NHL, will not get to spend time with their family, return home or ultimately relax and recharge for the final stretch of the season. There is no player this could affect more than the lone Los Angeles King attending the All Star Game.

Video: Briere's Hat Trick...And Fight?

Daniel Briere recorded his fifth career hat trick when scored all three of the Philadelphia Flyers' goals in their 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators earlier today.

Briere's first goal was a rebound off of his own shot which he initially fanned on. His second came off of a redirect of Kimmo Timonen's point shot. Briere won the game and brought the hats out of the stands and onto the ice when he snuck a wrap around past the Ottawa Senators' goaltender with under ten seconds to play in overtime.

Jonathan Quick Is The King's First Half MVP

The Kings kick off the second half of their season today when they face the Columbus Blue Jackets. Through the King's first 41 games there has been nothing more apparent than the the team's struggle with offensive production.

As the Kings start the second half of the season they have the league's lowest goals per game average at 2.07, and have scored 85 goals on the season, also the lowest total in the league.

Despite the team's inability to find the back of the net, they find themselves one point out of first place in the Pacific Division, and in seventh place in the Western Conference. They have avoided the league cellar due to the stellar play of Kings goalie, Jonathan Quick.
