Another Tragedy In The Hockey World

Over recent months, the hockey community has been hit hard with the deaths of Derek Boogard, Wade Belak, and Rick Rypien. With the most recent being Belak's death, just over a week ago.

Unfortunately before the world of hockey could regain its composure, it was hit with another tragedy. Earlier today, a plane carrying the Kontinental Hockey League's Yaroslavl Lokomotiv crashed and claimed the lives of at least 43 passengers.

Lokomotiv confirmed that the entire starting roster, some youth players, and support staff were aboard the plane.

In an interview with, Vladamir Malkov said, "We have no team anymore. All our starting players, and all the service people, they all burned in the crash."

Among those on the plane were former NHLers, Pavol Demitra, Ruslan Salei, Karel Rachunek, Karlis Skrastins, Josef Vasicek, Alexander Vasyunov, and former coach Brad Mccrimmon.

Russian aviation officials have reported that two passengers survived the crash but are in critical condition.

My deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and those who were affected by today's losses.

Rather than end the post on a grim note, here are some of the highlights of those lost. Celebrate what they have done with their time on this Earth, and be jealous of the pick up game that is going on in heaven right now.
